All About BA

Program Description

Boilermaker Aquatics Swim Team exists to provide an amateur athletic program that encourages the pursuit of excellence in competitive swimming. Try-outs are required to join the team since membership on the team requires a minimum skill level. The team does provide periodic swim lessons and clinics to the general public so children can gain knowledge of the basic strokes and the minimum skills needed. The program currently utilizes pool facilities at the West Lafayette High School, Harrison High School, Purdue University, and West Lafayette Parks and Recreation. There are two seasons per year, the short course season (September-February) and the long course season (April-July). The team holds call-outs/try-outs at the beginning of each season. The team and all swimmers are members of USA Swimming and Indiana Swimming.

Boilermaker Aquatics Swim Team is a not-for-profit organization. Operating expenses for the team include team fees, facility rental fees, coaches meet expenses, equipment costs, team communication, resources needed to host meets, team activity expenses, ribbons and awards, etc. Revenue is generated by fees, hosting home meets, sponsorships, advertising, donations, and fund-raising activities.

Mission and Objectives

The mission of the Boilermaker Aquatics Swim Team is to produce a group of highly trained, cohesive individuals who are mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for a competitive experience. To strive to instill in young swimmers an understanding of and appreciation for such concepts as high self-esteem, personal accountability, self-discipline, goal setting, and goal achievement as these ideas relate to their success in training and in competition. The team must be financially sound in order to meet its objectives. To this end, the following objectives have been established:

  2. To develop a BA parents program that enhances and supports the team.
  3. To develop a team identity and build pride in the team.
  4. To promote awareness of and access to this swim program.
  5. To provide training and competition for swimmers at all levels, allowing each individual to develop to their full potential.

Swimmer Objectives:

  1. To develop a positive self-image, self-respect, and self-confidence.
  2. To develop self-reliance and self-discipline.
  3. To develop self-motivation, goal setting, and achievement through practice and swim meets.
